The MSU Speech and Debate Council represents Mississippi State University in intercollegiate forensics competition and promotes speech and debate education on campus and across the state. We believe in the power of the spoken word to change lives and communities for the better.
Competitive speech and debate at Mississippi State has a long and proud history, stretching back over decades. Since the program was revived in 2015, it has had great success, winning numerous tournament and regional championships, and seeing our students ranked among the top in the nation.
But the Council’s impact goes beyond winning trophies. We promote public speaking and debate on MSU’s campus through activities like the Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest, mock presidential debates, and sponsorship of Student Association debates. We also work to provide forensics education in the larger community by sponsoring activities like the Cowbell Classic tournament and helping establish and support new high school programs.
Whether you’re an experienced speaker or completely new to the activity, the Council has something for you. So please take a look around. And if you’re interested in learning more, let us know.
