Why communication?
I came into college as a psychology major, but quickly realized my heart was not in it. I did a great deal of soul searching and research of potential career paths during my freshman year and realized my passion for journalism. Although it seemed unconventional at the time, I decided to chase my dreams of becoming a journalist and television reporter. Making the switch was definitely God’s call for me, and I’m so thankful that I listened.
Favorite class so far?
Introduction to News Writing with Dr. Poe and TV Production with Professor Misun have been my two favorite classes so far. The content of the classes and the dedication of both professors were what made me find my passion for journalism and television reporting.
Advice for incoming communication students?
Go above and beyond what is asked of you, and you will not regret it. Find your passion, get out of your comfort zone and do not be afraid to chase your dreams.
Best advice you’ve received from a professor?
During my first semester at Mississippi State, Dr. Poe encouraged us to get involved with the student-run newspaper. Taking his advice was one of the best decisions I ever made as it opened so many doors for me as a journalist and put me in a position to make connections with people in the professional world.
Favorite place on MSU’s campus?
Mitchell Memorial Library has to be my favorite. It’s a perfect place to work on my assignments, study with friends or grab a tasty bagel from Einstein’s.
Guilty pleasure show?
Since I was in high school, America’s Next Top Model has always been the show I turn on when nobody is around.
Favorite Starkville restaurant?
Little Dooey. This is my go to pick when friends or family are visiting Starkville or when I just need some comfort food!
Davis Wade Stadium or Dudy Noble Field?
Dudy Noble Field. I love the relaxing atmosphere, and I will never turn down watching MSU baseball with my friends.
Do you drink coffee? If so, what is your coffee order?
I’m not a big coffee drinker, but I do love Chick-Fil-A’s frosted coffee and Starbuck’s chai tea latte when I need a pick-me-up!
